* Deposit Holds and Restrictions may apply.
** Limit may be lower for some cardholders.
PIN
A PIN number is automatically assigned to your VISA Check Card. This is mailed separately from your card, usually arriving a few days after the card. Cardholders are welcome to change the PIN number on their cards to one of their choosing. Just bring the card in to any of our locations – please allow 1 business day for the update to take effect. The PIN number created will carry over to replacement cards that are issued with the same card number.
Fraud
We take Fraud Protection very seriously. As card use increases globally, so does card exploitation. A first line of defense against card fraud is the issuance of EMV/Chip Cards. Chip security technology is far harder to circumvent than Magnetic Strip technology.
Another defense is constant real-time fraud monitoring. Our fraud department is monitoring the complex landscape of card fraud 24/7. If fraud is suspected, you will likely be contacted to verify transactions. If enrolled in txt notifications, you may receive a txt notification first. If a valid transaction that was flagged for fraud is verified, the card service will be reinstated. If a transaction cannot be verified, the card may be considered compromised and not reinstated. Depending on the severity of the fraud threat, the card may not be de-activated.
Newly ordered cards are automatically enrolled in TXT notification. If you would like to receive fraud alerts via txt, please reply to the txt received. Cardholders may be enrolled later by contacting the Credit Union.
Fraud detection is strongest when combined with CardValet – which puts card control in your hands. Please take a few minutes to install this and configure this on your mobile device.
If you suspect fraud on your card and have Card Valet installed on your mobile device, immediately turn the card off. If you do not have Card Valet, call the Credit Union during business hours at (309) 697-1447 and or after hours call 1 (800) 472-3272.
See VISA Check Card Disputes for additional information on unauthorized payments.
Protect your card: To prevent potential losses from unauthorized charges it is important to keep your card and other confidential information safe. Suggested best practices include:
- Do not write down your PIN number. If you must write it down, do not keep it anywhere near your card.
- Choose to sign whenever possible. This minimizes opportunities for fraudsters to obtain your PIN. If entering your PIN, cover the keypad while entering the number.
- Shop with merchants you know and trust.
- Shop only online stores that utilize secure software. Look that the web browser is secure (https:// or image of a locked padlock in URL).
- Prior to using your card at any unmanned kiosk (eg ATM or gas pump), check for a skimming device by gently pulling or nudging the reader. If it isn’t secure, do not proceed.
- Never send payment or any confidential information via email.
- Reconcile (balance) your account regularly.
Card Valet
CardValet is an app that allows you to put control of your debit card in your hands.
Access allows you to:
- Turn card on/off 24/7
- Set transactions alerts
- Set the card to work only within close proximity of your phone
- Set your geographic location (great for domestic travel!)
- Set spending limits
- Set allowed merchant types (eg block entertainment industry transactions)
To download, search “CardValet” in either the App Store or Play Store. Once logged in, the above settings can be set by clicking on “Card” at the top of the screen. Card history can be viewed in the “Accounts” section.
We recommend the following settings:
Control Preference:
- My Locations: On
- This control will block any transaction done outside of the general area of your phone. Example, if a fraudster is trying to use your card in Chicago, but your phone is in Peoria, the transaction will be denied.
- My Regions: On w/ corresponding region selected.
- Use map to select region. Make sure to only select region you’ll be in. Unless you’ll be traveling across the entire US, selecting the entire US leaves the card vulnerable to fraud across the US.
- Merchant Types: Turn off any you wish to block
- Unblock through app for future use.
- Transaction Types: Turn off any you wish to block
- Unblock through app for future use.
- Spend Limits: Set a spending limit
- Turn on per transaction for a single transaction or unmark this control to set an aggregate amount.
- Alerts: generate alerts for purchases of any dollar amount.
- Alerts allow instant awareness of fraudulent activity, allowing the card to be turned off more quickly

VISA Check Card Disputes
Redbrand Credit Union VISA Check Cards are covered by numerous fraud protections, including the VISA Zero Liability® guarantee.
Typically, resolution for unauthorized transactions should first be attempted by the cardholder. Merchant contact information is usually listed in the transaction description. Oftentimes, transactions were previously authorized by the cardholder or authorized by someone else in the household. Contact our fraud department for transactions for which resolution is not found.
The Credit Union will launch an investigation immediately after notification of a fraudulent transaction. Valid claims will receive a provisional credit within 5 business days.
RBCU ATMs
Redbrand CU has ATMs located at each of our locations. Machines are free for Redbrand CU Cardholder use; up to 20 withdrawals per month. After which, there is a $1 fee for each subsequent withdrawal. Redbrand CU Cardholders may deposit* at these machines. Withdrawals made at an ATM machine not owned by Redbrand CU may be subject to transaction fees from the ATM owner. However, Redbrand has joined a Co-Op Network of ATMs nationwide where members may be able to make withdrawals with no additional fees. For a list of in network ATMs please click here.

Courtesy Pay
Courtesy Pay is a program designed to help members in a pinch. It allows the account to be over-drafted up to $500 negative. There is a $30 fee for each item cleared. Only paper checks and ACH (electronic) debits qualify for courtesy pay. The account balance must be brought out of the negative within thirty (30) days.
The requirements to qualify for Courtesy Pay include: checking account open at least six (6) months, no loans more than 30 days delinquent, $500 in deposits in the checking account in the past thirty (30) days and the account must have a current address.
Overdraft Protection
For members who elect to have Overdraft Protection, if an item is presented on the checking account for which funds are not available, as long as the funds are available in an eligible account under the same member number, they will automatically transfer over. This happens in the increment needed to clear the item. The first six (6) overdraft protection transfers are free. Each thereafter is $30. Upon your request via our Member Service Agreement, we can transfer from other eligible accounts in the order requested or even decline the service.
Money Order
Redbrand CU offers money orders to our members. Money orders cannot exceed $1,000 each. The cost is $1.50. Prior to negotiating the money order the payee and sender information will need to be completed. Money Orders are free to Prime Time Members.
Cashier's Check
While technically Teller Checks, Redbrand Credit Union offers checks for members. These do not have any dollar limits. The check must be made payable to payee at the time of purchase. The cost is only $1.00 each. Cashier’s Checks are free to Prime Time Members.
Lost, stolen or destroyed cashier’s checks can be handled through the Credit Union. Stop in any office to complete a Declaration of Loss form; the refund is typically issued back into the account within 2 calendar weeks.
Stop Payments
Paper Check: Stop Payments may be placed on paper checks that have not already cleared. You may place a stop payment on a check in the office, over the telephone or online. If not placed in an office, a stop payment form must be signed within 2 weeks.
There is a $30 fee for a stop payment. This fee is waived for Prime Time Members.
ACH (Automated Clearing House): Technically, stop payments cannot be placed on ACH Items. However, unauthorized transactions can be disputed using an ACH Revocation Order.
Prior to processing an ACH Revocation Order the member must first attempt to resolve the matter with the company originating the payment. If resolution is not reached, members may turn to the Credit Union for this solution.
Payments qualified for processing a revocation order will be assessed a fee of $30 per payment disputed. Provisional Credits are typically issued within 1 business day.
Debit Card: VISA Check Card transactions are considered guaranteed funds, therefore cannot have stop payments placed on them. Fraudulent transactions may be eligible for dispute filing. See VISA Check Card Disputes for additional information.
